$1,200 Scholarship in Memory of 
Jim and Rita Cwengros

​​This scholarship is awarded in memory of Jim and Rita (Fleis) Cwengros, a couple whose lives were deeply rooted in faith, service, and dedication to others. High school sweethearts who attended Glen Lake High School, Jim pursued a career in pharmacy, and Rita in nursing. Together, they raised a family in Grand Rapids, where they were deeply involved in Holy Spirit Catholic Church and actively served as leaders in the Boy Scouts of America.
Their deep commitment to service led them to join Holy Spirit’s medical mission team, making multiple trips to Seguin, Haiti, including medical relief after the 2010 earthquake. In 2013, they lost their lives while traveling to Haiti on their final mission.

Cassandra (Cassie) Irene Elizabeth Thurow

  Cassie Thurow was a loving, energetic, funny, sensitive, and beautiful little girl who was taken away from us way too soon.   She was a delegator (she directed her preschool friends on how to clean up while she watched), a spokesperson (she would speak for her younger brother so he didn’t have to), an artist (she colored within the lines beautifully), an actress (she could have been the next Disney Princess), and a hero (she saved four babies' lives).  She always had a smile (except when Grandpa got upset with her), wore a hat and was ready to pose at any moment.  She is and will always be missed.
